LANCE
Burn Alive
Born a commoner in the cold slums of Ishgard, Lance never knew his mother or father. While the noble children lived carefree lives, the orphans under the city begged, fought, and stole for enough food to last the day. With no form of education, no prospects, and no acknowledgment of the problem, there was little hope for them. However, Lance yearned for something more.At twelve years old, he covered himself in bits of cloth he'd sewn together to brace against the cold. Without a second thought, he slipped out from the underside of the city, past the guards, through the snow and wind to make his way south. Guided by the moon, he survived on snow and stale pieces of bread, warmed by the rags on his back and the determination in his heart. He spent months begging, stealing, and fighting for scraps of food and coin in the long journey through the snow. He learned to track and hunt packs of beasts and bandits alike, providing him with sustenance. When times were tough, he sheltered himself in old, abandoned ruins and homes that had been left cold and isolated. Despite the hunger pangs and exhaustion, his desire for a better life never faded. He sought something to call his own, a way to shape his own destiny. As he journeyed, he often felt like he was sinking into an abyss, alone with his thoughts, forced to reminisce about his hardships. The tranquility of the cold nights did nothing to ease his troubled mind. It was a relentless calm that pushed him to drown out his fears and memories with sheer willpower and determination. This struggle, this internal storm, became his constant companion.Eventually, the landscape grew warmer, and Lance found himself in Gridania. There, he encountered a group of wanderers, known as the "Lovely Ghosts," who shared his restless spirit. They took him in, teaching him to read and write, and how to wield an axe and sword. Though not an expert, he now possessed the tools to forge his own path, more than he had ever dared to dream.Years later, Lance established himself in Ul'Dah. At twenty-five, he works as a courier, hunter, and in other contracted roles. The money he earns is sent back to the slums of Ishgard, a testament to the resilience and perseverance he developed during his arduous journey. His presence in the city, marked by a mysterious aura and a compassionate heart, is a reminder that even in the darkest times, the human spirit can find a way to burn brightly. If you find yourself in town, you might catch a glimpse of Lance, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, still seeking to turn his past struggles into a force for good.
